Cheryl began a career in both music and fitness after a couple of years out of college at Cornell University. She'd taken a cool government job that had her SCUBA diving with research teams but decided to give it up to pursue her true passion: music. She balanced this choice with a career in personal training and attained certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the global leader in highest quality and in-depth training for fitness professionals. Cheryl has sinced worked as a personal trainer at New York Sports Club gyms in CT and New York, taught group classes like stretch, abs, total body weights, and core strength with fitness balls. She has also taught private aqua fitness classes in clients’ personal pools.
Cheryl grew up a competitive swimmer and runner, and added rock climbing and tennis to her resume by high school. At Cornell, Cheryl developed a love for canoeing, hiking and rowing. Cheryl was a prominent member of the Division 1 varsity crew team, where she developed a love for extreme training, cardio fitness and team competition. After graduating, Cheryl took up competitive kayaking and adventure racing (orienteering, trail running, mountain biking and kayaking) and competed in several “sprint” races, lasting 5 hours, and a 24-hour urban adventure race. She worked at Manhattan Kayak Company as an assistant kayak guide for several years. Cheryl spent this last summer in Bar Harbor, Maine, where she joined a yoga studio as a core-fitness instructor and she works with inSHAPE clients of all ages and fitness levels.
